Are Botanical Insecticides Successful against Insects and Pests?

The article Botanical Insecticides and their Potential as Anti-Insect/Pests: Are they Successful against Insects and Pests was published in the Intechopen Journal on March 2021. It scans the efficacy of botanical insecticides against insects and pests. 35% of the total agricultural products are lost to arthropods, diseases, and weeds worldwide. Farmers in many developing countries cannot access synthetic pesticides and resort to plant-based pesticides. 

The article studies the effect of various materials used as insecticides, including garlic and neem. Garlic was found to be effective against Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, and Hemiptera insect species. Neem was proven to cause sterility in female insects and worked as an antifeedant for a variety of insects. The effects of essential oils as insecticides have also been discussed in the article.
