Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilization Solution Search

BACKGROUND

CCEP is committed to aggressive targets in key areas of environmental and social sustainability, including an ambition to “reduce absolute GHG emissions across our full value chain by 30% by 2030 (vs. 2019)” and “to be Net Zero by 2040”. While efforts to reduce GHG emissions across the value chain will make the most significant contributions towards those goals, it may not be enough, as 93% of those emissions are outside CCEP’s direct control. As a long-term complement, CCEP Ventures is exploring making direct long-term investments and/or establish collaborations in/with economically viable carbon capture, sequestration and re-utilization (CCSU) technologies, business models, services or materials that will reduce the existing stock of excess CO2 in the atmosphere, ideally in a way that can be incorporated into CCEP’s value chain.

THE CHALLENGE

There’s a lot of innovation happening around CCSU. In order to focus potential investment opportunities, CCEP needs to:

  1. understand the landscape of available CCSU solutions (in a European context),
  2. establish a pipeline to narrow the scope to eventually, and
  3. pursue due diligence efforts against the most attractive solutions.

THE OUTCOME

Through a digitally-enabled program, Ubuntoo mapped the landscape of available techno-commercial (not biological or geological) carbon capture, sequestration and re-utilization technologies, business models, services or materials (CCSU solutions), and established the criteria to evaluate and narrow these solutions to identify a prioritized list of potential candidates based on impact and relevancy for direct CCEP Ventures investment and/or collaboration.
