Game Changer: How the Sports Industry is Saving the Environment

The professional sports industry has seen a shift in recent years toward ecological stewardship. North American professional leagues, teams, and venues have saved money through energy efficiency and water conservation, as well as engaging their fans in environmental protection initiatives. This report looks at the most successful greening initiatives taken by sports organizations, as well as the motivations, successes, challenges, and lessons learned from them. The case studies featured in this report will help to educate sports professionals, their supply chains, and fans about the business case for greening, which can bring cost savings, brand enhancement, sponsorship opportunities, and stronger community ties. It is hoped that the information contained in this report will help other organizations, both in and outside of the sports industry, to learn from the successes of the sports industry and implement their own greening initiatives.
