Multilayer Packaging Continues to Make Its Mark
Multilayer packaging refers to the utilization of various materials that combine closely to create a packaging structure. Numerous food packaging solutions employ multilayer designs. These layers are often visibly apparent, such as the bonded layers of polymers, paperboard, and aluminum found in TetraPak's iconic brick-shaped cartons.
However, certain layers remain less conspicuous, such as the thinly coextruded layers within polymer films and the coatings applied onto paperboard cartons. The implementation of layered food packaging serves several purposes, including safeguarding food in a specialized manner, enhancing brand operations, reducing damage during distribution, facilitating retail presentation, catering to consumer needs, and minimizing packaging materials.
