Racing With Purpose

Building upon the legacy of the last edition of the Race, our innovative sustainability programme, ‘Racing with Purpose’, aims to act as a catalyst to help restore ocean health.

With a commitment to embed sustainability at its heart, The Ocean Race has unveiled a roadmap to inspire action and create tangible outcomes that have a positive impact on the marine environment.

The formation of visionary partnerships with Premier Partner 11th Hour Racing and Official Partners Bluewater and Volvo Cars, will see us collectively work on a broad range of initiatives for cleaner and healthier seas.

The unique collaboration continues the momentum built during the previous edition of the Race and its multi-award winning Sustainability Programme.

As part of the cutting-edge initiative, we have committed to a comprehensive action plan.  This includes a series of legacy-building Ocean Race Summits and Innovation Workshops, with the first taking place in Genoa, Italy.

An immersive, multi-lingual, curriculum-based, schools Learning Programme gives children the opportunity to learn about our thrilling round the world ocean Race, understand how ocean plastic pollution is damaging our blue planet – and how they can be part of the solution.

We are expanding our ground-breaking Science Programme, developed during the last Ocean Race. We are also working with experts and future teams to explore the use of state-of- the-art renewable energy systems on board the IMOCA 60 and VO65 classes.

The Race continues its commitment to be the best role model in terms of sustainable event production, in partnership with our Race teams and partners. During the next edition, starting from Alicante, Spain, we aim to inspire our stopover destinations and millions of Race Village visitors of ways they can contribute to a sustainable future.
