Reefs at Risk Revisited in the Coral Triangle
The Coral Triangle, encompassing the marine waters of six countries, serves as the world's coral reef hub, offering significant natural resources to more than 130 million people. These resources, however, are imperilled, with over 85% of coral reefs under threat due to overfishing, harmful fishing practices, coastal development, and pollution.
To combat this, the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security (CTI-CFF), the most significant regional marine governance endeavour, was formed in 2009 by the affected nations. The "Reefs at Risk Revisited in the Coral Triangle" report presents a detailed investigation of the growing threats faced by the Coral Triangle's reefs and the challenges in managing them, offering a potent call to action to various stakeholders to collect and preserve this critical marine ecosystem.
