Sustainable Clothing Action Plan 2020 Commitment
Launched in 2012, The Sustainable Clothing Action Plan 2020 Commitment (SCAP) aimed to drastically reduce the UK clothing and textiles industry’s carbon, water, and waste footprint. At a time when the industry was crying out for a force to unite brands and retail signatories with the charity sector and recyclers, 90 pioneering brands, retailers, re-use and recycling organizations, academics, and innovators joined forces to influence the way products were designed, manufactured, and re-used or recycled.
SCAP has provided the evidence base and tools to enable businesses to target, measure, and act to reduce their environmental impact through collaboration. While challenges remain to reduce the industry's environmental impact, SCAP has paved the way for new ways of working that are still driving forward change.
This is the final SCAP report, which includes an overview of the SCAP agreement and the final results. It is a high-level summary of what was learned and accomplished over eight years.
The report details the actions taken by signatories to meet the targets. It shares case studies and best practices and highlights the lessons learned that will be carried forward into the next chapter, Textiles 2030, which is larger and more ambitious.
