The Future of Nature and Business

Our planet's health is inextricably linked to the global economy. Nature's ability to cope is strained by how we produce, manufacture, consume, and ultimately manage our waste. According to this report, three economic sectors account for 80% of biodiversity loss: food, land and ocean use, extractives and energy, and infrastructure and the built environment.

Given our economies' and businesses' reliance on nature, we must identify and mitigate the risks of nature loss in our business operations. Now, more than ever, there is an urgent need for leadership from all sides. This report provides a practical agenda for businesses to contribute to the development of practical roadmaps that address the most critical drivers of nature loss and build a more nature-friendly future.

To successfully address this challenge, it will be necessary to address the indirect forces that underpin the drivers of environmental loss, such as global trade, production and consumption patterns, governance mechanisms, and societal values and behaviors – something that business alone is rarely capable of doing.
