Universal Circular Economy Policy Goals
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has created a set of Universal Circular Economy Policy Goals to provide a common direction of travel in policy development for a faster transition to a circular economy. The paper outlines five goals: Stimulate design for the circular economy; Manage resources to preserve value; Make the economics work; Invest in innovation, infrastructure, and skills; Collaborate for system change. The Foundation is calling on businesses and policymakers at all levels to work together and align with these five goals to catalyse private sector innovation and develop solutions that can be deployed and scaled globally, creating healthier economic recoveries.
The Foundation has collaborated with its global network of businesses, policymakers, and organisations to create the policy goals, and has received positive feedback from notable institutions and organisations such as the World Bank and IKEA. Moving to a circular economy has the potential to tackle climate change and deliver better growth, and the Foundation believes that the policy goals will help to create the necessary alignment between industry and government to make it happen.
