Vision of a Circular Economy for Fashion
The fashion industry is a major contributor to environmental pollution, as millions of tonnes of clothes are produced, worn, and discarded every year. The equivalent of a rubbish truckload of clothes is burnt or buried in a landfill every second. The solution requires the fashion industry to reinvent the way clothes are made and used by creating a circular economy. This vision would require collaboration between industry and government, significant investment, transparency, and traceability. A circular fashion industry would prioritize everyone's rights and equity involved in the fashion industry, while creating new opportunities for growth that are diverse, inclusive, and distributed. By designing products to be used more, made to be made again, and made from safe and recycled or renewable inputs, we can tackle the root causes of global challenges like climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
